    If you have deployed comprehensive business critical applications or you are running large software engineering projects it is your concern it all works. To ensure existing applications and new releases do not fail they need to be tested. You will agree manual testing is a laborious task, time consuming, expensive and error prone. Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen nieuwe gebruiker van CitraTest

TrendIC heeft haar softwaretool CitraTest geleverd aan het Shared Service Center ICT (SSC-I) van de Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen (DJI) voor de operationele monitoring van haar belangrijkste diensten. DJI kiest voor deze oplossing om, naast bewaking op componentniveau inzicht te verkrijgen in het functioneren van de dienst in zijn geheel. 

 

DJI maakt onderdeel uit van het Ministerie van Veiligheid en Justitie en heeft circa 17.000 medewerkers. SSC-I verzorgt de ontwikkeling en het beheer van de applicaties, infrastructuur en werkplekken die worden gebruikt door alle medewerkers van DJI.

 

Tijdens het selectietraject zijn diverse softwareoplossingen geëvalueerd waarbij uiteindelijk is besloten voor CitraTest APM (Application Performance Monitoring). DJI maakte al gebruik van software voor 'component monitoring'. Een dienst is opgebouwd uit diverse componenten, zowel op hardware als software gebied, die allemaal individueel bewaakt worden. Deze monitoring biedt echter voornamelijk inzicht vanuit IT-perspectief.

 

Een belangrijk instrument om de kwaliteit en continuïteit van de dienstverlening te waarborgen is de bewaking van de infrastructuur en de applicaties m.b.t. beschikbaarheid en performance. Daarom is de behoefte ontstaan om de bestaande tooling van HP uit te breiden met een oplossing die werkt vanuit gebruikersperspectief. De dienst of applicatie wordt functioneel bewaakt door gebruikersacties te simuleren. CitraTest APM maakt gebruik van één of meerdere 'robot' systemen van waaruit de gebruikers worden gesimuleerd, de meetresultaten worden opgeslagen in een centrale database.


Bij de keuze voor CitraTest APM hebben een aantal onderscheidende factoren de doorslag gegeven:

  • CitraTest is volledig gebaseerd op (Windows) schermafhandeling. Dit is een vereiste in de DJI omgeving waar alle applicaties via Citrix ter beschikking worden gesteld.
  • CitraTest bewaakt de applicatie van de 'buitenkant' (is volledig 'non-intrusive'), er wordt geen CitraTest software in de bestaande omgeving geïnstalleerd.
  • Eenvoudig en snel te implementeren.
  • Centraal beheer.
  • Rapportage mogelijkheden.

 

CitraTest APM wordt bij DJI ingezet voor de volgende toepassingsgebieden:

  • Operationele monitoring van diensten of applicaties: ‘’doet ie het’’ (beschikbaarheid) en hoe goed ‘’doet ie het’’ (performance). 
  • SLA rapportage. We kunnen met behulp van CitraTest meten en rapporteren op basis van in SLA's afgesproken responsetijden van diensten of applicaties.
  • Doordat de metingen op continue basis plaats vinden biedt het de mogelijkheid eventuele 'vage' klachten te kwantificeren. Voorbeeld van een dergelijke klacht is: "Het is traag". Met behulp CitraTest kunnen we vragen beantwoorden als: is het daadwerkelijke traag en op welke tijdstippen van de dag, week of maand is het dan traag.
  • Eén van de CitraTest robot systemen is als 'mobiele robot' ingericht en kan op flexibele wijze worden ingezet op verschillende locaties ten behoeve van trouble shooting van locatie afhankelijke problemen.
  • Het uitvoeren van zogeheten 'intake tests' na het patchen van systemen. Maandelijks worden OS patches uitgevoerd op onze systemen. Na het patchen van de systemen moeten de diensten en applicaties functioneel getest worden - de 'intake test'. Met behulp van CitraTest worden deze testen snel, gestructureerd en altijd op dezelfde wijze uitgevoerd. Applicatie specialisten hoeven pas worden ingeschakeld als de 'intake test' resulteert in een foutmelding.
